The Rising for Girls
The Rising for Girls addresses the specific needs of young women growing up in today’s challenging world. We are offering our girls-only Rising program at Meany Middle School, but we hope to expand to more schools in the future. To keep our students and staff safe, The Rising for Girls is currently offered online only.
How it works
The highly interactive and innovative curriculum of The Rising for Girls is offered online each week. Female facilitators and mentors help transform these young scholars by encircling them with a healing curriculum, positive role models and a place where they can feel nurtured and accepted.
Thanks to our virtual curriculum, our scholars can continue to be inspired and encouraged during these difficult times. For families without laptops, computers or internet service, our community partners may be able to help.
The Rising curriculum is rooted in prevention and offers the principles, practices and tools that young girls need in order to successfully navigate their school years and future careers. During the weekly sessions, we cultivate cultural pride and self-esteem, develop critical thinking and literacy skills, and instill a love of learning and high achievement. Studies have shown that students in The Rising have a higher sense of self-worth, confidence and hope – qualities that are seen as predictors of lifelong success.
